So I decided to publish, first of all, an article introducing the main attractions of\u00a0Hong Kong. Enjoy!<\/p>\n<p>P.s. Watch the show\u00a0&#8220;A Symphony of Lights&#8221; on the\u00a0Avenue of Stars<\/h2>\n<p>We&#8217;re not just talking about any light show: A Symphony of Lights is entered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest permanent light show on the planet. In fact,\u00a045 buildings along the\u00a0Skyline of\u00a0Hong Kong Island &#8220;shoot&#8221;\u00a0laser lights toward\u00a0Victoria Harbor in time to music.<strong><!--more--><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The show, which had a price tag\u00a0of about five million\u00a0Euro, is held every day at\u00a08 in the evening\u00a0(so long as there is no typhoon warning) and lasts fourteen minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Statistics aside, in my opinion the show is really well done and if you come to\u00a0Hong Kong, you really shouldn&#8217;t miss it.<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>Despite the fact that the show is performed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/apps-traveling-hong-kong\/\" >on\u00a0Hong Kong<\/a>, to watch it you have to go to\u00a0Kowloon. In particular, Take exit\u00a0J of the\u00a0MTR Tsim Sha Tsui East Station (Kowloon Peninsula) and you&#8217;ll arrive at\u00a0Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, on the\u00a0Avenue of Stars up to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Climb to\u00a0Victoria Peak via tram<\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"The Peak\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thepeak.com.hk\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victoria Peak<\/a>\u00a0is the hill that forms the backdrop for the skyscrapers of Hong Kong Island (yes, the same ones that wake up at night and perform\u00a0the show\u00a0A Symphony of Lights). With an altitude of\u00a0554 meters above sea level, Victoria Peak represents the highest point in\u00a0Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p>I recommend that you arrive there just before sunset so you can admire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/living-in-hong-kong\/\" >Hong Kong<\/a> as it becomes colored by lights.<\/p>\n<p>p.s. If you&#8217;re interested in that sort of thing, on top you&#8217;ll also find\u00a0<a title=\"Madame Tussauds Hong Kong\" href=\"https:\/\/www.madametussauds.com\/hong-kong\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Madame Tussauds<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>You can take the\u00a0Peak Tram (which is more than 100 years old, has never had an accident and, to tell the truth, is an attraction in its own right) from the\u00a0Peak Tram Lower Terminus on Garden Road (which you can reach walking from exit J2 of\u00a0MTR Central Station) or by walking.<\/p>\n<p>Just a heads up that if you go on foot, you&#8217;ll be facing a\u00a0climb of about 500 meters for a total 3.5 km of walking. It is here, in the northeastern part of the island, that you&#8217;ll find the most spectacular skyscrapers and most luxurious shopping malls of\u00a0Hong Kong. Admire the panorama from the roof of the\u00a0IFC Mall<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0<a title=\"IFC Mall\" href=\"http:\/\/ifc.com.hk\/en\/mall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Finance Centre (or IFC) Mall<\/a>\u00a0is the most famous shopping complex in Hong Kong. From the restaurants on the highest floor you can admire Victoria Harbor and\u00a0the\u00a0Kowloon peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>For the truly obsessed, here you&#8217;ll find one of the only\u00a0two <a title=\"Apple Store hong Kong\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/hk\/en\/retail\/ifcmall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple Stores<\/a>\u00a0in Hong Kong (the other one is on Causeway Bay).<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0IFC Mall is located above the\u00a0MTR Hong Kong Station (in Central).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/4.shek-o.jpg\" alt=\"Shek-O\" title=\"Shek-O\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/4.shek-o.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/4.shek-o-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><em><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">A glimpse of Shek-O beach<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h2>6. Swim in\u00a0Shek-O beach or surf at\u00a0Big Wave Bay Beach<\/h2>\n<p>One of the two reasons why I love\u00a0Hong Kong &#8211; the other being the elegant girls that shop at the malls in\u00a0Central &#8211; is that it&#8217;s one of the few metropolises that I know of where you can &#8220;escape&#8221; to surround yourself in nature in less than an hour\u00a0(and using only public transport). Try to do the same thing in Beijing or Paris and tell me how that turns out!<\/p>\n<p>The village of\u00a0Shek-O is located in the southeastern part of the island; it is here that you&#8217;ll find\u00a0both Big Wave Bay Beach, one of the preferred destinations for surfers, as well as\u00a0Shek-O Beach, which is more suited for families.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Spiagge Hong Kong\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/travel\/2012\/jul\/04\/top-10-beaches-hong-kong\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here<\/a>\u00a0to discover the other beaches of Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>Take the\u00a0metro\u00a0to the\u00a0MTR Shau Kei Wan Station, exit\u00a0A3. Then take bus number 9 to\u00a0Shek-O.<\/p>\n<h2>7. Visit\u00a0the\u00a0Hong Kong\u00a0Ocean Park<\/h2>\n<p>The <a title=\"Oceak Park Hong Kong\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oceanpark.com.hk\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hong Kong Ocean Park<\/a>\u00a0is, as the name would suggest, a theme park where you&#8217;ll find an aquarium, an amusement park and much more\u00a0(click on the link for details). In\u00a02013 it was the most visited theme park in all of Asia\u00a0(and twelfth in the world).<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>Take bus\u00a0629 from\u00a0Central Pier number 7 or from the\u00a0MTR Admiralty Station, Exit B.<\/p>\n<h2>8. Taste a glass of wine in the\u00a0SOHO neighborhood<\/h2>\n<p>SOHO, which means\u00a0South Of Hollywood Road, is another area of\u00a0bars and\u00a0\u00a0restaurants (located, like\u00a0LKF, in the Central neighborhood). In my opinion, compared to\u00a0LKF, it is more elegant and suited for those in search of a more relaxed atmosphere.<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>Take the\u00a0MTR to Central Station, Exit D2.<\/p>\n<h2>9. Breathe in London&#8217;s air at\u00a0Causeway Bay<\/h2>\n<p>Causeway Bay will always remain impressed in my mind because, the first time I came to Hong Kong, I popped out of the subway right at exit\u00a0D of the\u00a0Causeway Bay station (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/best-cheap-hostels-in-hong-kong\/\" title=\"Best cheap hostels in Hong Kong: Causeway Bay and Chung King Mansion\" >my hostel was right there, a few steps away<\/a>) and a\u00a0Double Decker Bus (yes, like those in London) almost ran me over.<\/p>\n<p>But let&#8217;s not waste time talking: Causeway Bay is the commercial center of the island: it is in fact an area swarming with luxury boutiques, small bargain stores, shopping malls and lighted panels.<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>Take the metro to the\u00a0MTR Causeway Bay Station.<\/p>\n<h2>10. Visit the\u00a0Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0<a title=\"Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hkcec.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre<\/a>\u00a0is, together with the\u00a0Asia World\u2013Expo, one of the two most important exhibition centers of\u00a0\u00a0Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>Take the\u00a0MTR Wan Chai Station, Exit C.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/5.starferry.jpg\" alt=\"Victoria Harbour, Star Ferry\" title=\"Victoria Harbour, Star Ferry\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/5.starferry.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/5.starferry-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><em><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em\">The\u00a0Star Ferry, Victoria Harbour<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h2>11. Take the\u00a0Star Ferry<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0<a title=\"Star Ferry Hong Kong\" href=\"http:\/\/www.starferry.com.hk\/en\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Star Ferry<\/a>\u00a0is the boat that, since\u00a01888, has connected the island of Hong Kong to\u00a0Kowloon Peninsula, which is located just a few kilometers from Mainland\u00a0China. Despite the island&#8217;s now being connected by enormous well-lit tunnels and the subway, the\u00a0Star Ferry is always the top draw, both among tourists and residents of\u00a0Hong Kong who every day cross the channel that separates the island of\u00a0Hong Kong from\u00a0terra ferma.<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>Central Star Ferry pier: MTR Hong Kong Station, Exit A2 or MTR Central Station, Exit A.<\/p>\n<p>Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry pier: MTR Tsim Sha Tsui Station, Exit L6.<\/p>\n<p>Wan Chai Star Ferry pier: MTR Wan Chai Station, Exit A1.<\/p>\n<h2>12. Take the ferry to\u00a0Macao<\/h2>\n<p>Even though my suggestion would be to stay at least one night in Macao so that you can visit it without rushing, considering \u00a0that the first ferry leaves\u00a0\u00a0Hong Kong at\u00a07 AM, the trip lasts only an hour and, moreover, you can return to Hong Kong even late at night, it is therefore possible to visit the\u00a0ex-Portuguese colony in just one day.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Traghetto Hong Kong-Macao\" href=\"https:\/\/www.turbojet.com.hk\/en\/routing-sailing-schedule\/hong-kong-macau\/sailing-schedule-fares.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here<\/a>\u00a0to find timetables and pricing for the\u00a0Turbojet ferries, the transport company I&#8217;d recommend for the\u00a0\u00a0Hong Kong &#8211; Macao trip.<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>Get to the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal in Connaught Road Central, near to Sheung Wan MTR Station.<\/p>\n<h2>Lantau Island<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/6.tiantanbuddha.jpg\" alt=\"Tian tan buddha\" title=\"Tian tan buddha\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6527\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/6.tiantanbuddha.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/6.tiantanbuddha-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>13. Take a picture of the\u00a0Tian Tan Buddha<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0Tian Tan Buddha is a bronze statue of\u00a0\u00a0Buddha Amoghasiddhi that is located at Ngong Ping, on Lantau Island. To tell the truth, it never appealed to me. But I had already seen\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/leshan-giant-buddha-sichuan\/\" title=\"Leshan Giant Buddha in Sichuan Province \u2013 Photo Essays\" >the biggest Buddha in the world (in Leshan)<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/tibetan-monasteries-from-lhasa-to-shigatse\/\" title=\"Tibetan monasteries and a revolution on the bus \u2013 Photo Essays\" >Tibetan monasteries<\/a>\u00a0and the Thai temples of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/ayutthaya-old-capital-of-thailand\/\" title=\"Ayutthaya, the old capital of Thailand (Photo Essays)\" >Ayutthaya<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/temples-of-bangkok-wat-arun-wat-phra-kaew\/\" title=\"The Temples of Bangkok: Wat Arun and Wat Phra Kaew (Photos)\" >Bangkok<\/a>. So\u00a0it isn&#8217;t surprising that\u00a0the\u00a0Hong Kong\u00a0Buddha didn&#8217;t impress me.<\/p>\n<p>If however this is your first trip to\u00a0Asia and you&#8217;ve never visited a Buddhist temple, then I would recommend a visit!<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>Take the ferry from pier\u00a06 out of\u00a0Central to\u00a0Mui Wo and then bus number\u00a02 to\u00a0Ngong Ping. Or take the metro to the MTR Tung Chung Station and then bus number\u00a023 to\u00a0Ngong Ping. Froma Tung Chung <a title=\"Funivia Tian Tan Buddha\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tripsavvy.com\/ngong-ping-cable-car-hong-kong-1536014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">it is also possible to take the cable car<\/a> (5.7 Km, about\u00a025 minutes).<\/p>\n<h2>14. Visit Tai-o,\u00a0the last traditional fishing village<\/h2>\n<p>Tai-o, the last fishing village made of stilt houses, is one of my favorite places in Hong Kong. So much so, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/tai-o-the-fishermens-village-in-hong-kong\/\" title=\"Tai-O: The fishermen\u2019s village of stilt houses in Hong Kong\" >I\u00a0already published a photo gallery<\/a>\u00a0on the subject.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the link to discover why it deserves a visit!<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>Take the\u00a0\u00a0MTR \u00a0to Tung Chung Station and take bus number\u00a011 to\u00a0Tai-o. If you&#8217;d also like to visit the\u00a0Tian Tan Buddha then take bus number\u00a023 to\u00a0Ngong Ping and then, after visiting the\u00a0Buddha statue, number\u00a021 to\u00a0Tai-o.<\/p>\n<h2>15. Visit\u00a0Hong Kong\u00a0Disneyland<\/h2>\n<p>I admit I&#8217;ve never been to\u00a0<a title=\"Disneyland Hong Kong\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hongkongdisneyland.com\/?located=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hong Kong Disneyland<\/a> (nor any other Disneyland). I recommend it to those that love that kind of stuff!<\/p>\n<h3>How to get there<\/h3>\n<p>Take the\u00a0MTR to Sunny Bay Station\u00a0then take the pink line to\u00a0Disneyland Resort.<\/p>\n<h2>Kowloon Peninsula<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/7.chungkingmansions.jpg\" alt=\"Chung King Mansions\" title=\"Chung King Mansions\" width=\"700\" height=\"465\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6528\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/7.chungkingmansions.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/7.chungkingmansions-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>16. Lose yourself meandering through the\u00a0Chung King Mansions<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0Chung King Mansions are a strange place situated on\u00a0Nathan Road, in the heart of Kowloon. Shop at the\u00a0Ladies&#8217; Market<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0<a title=\"ladies&#039; Market Hong Kong\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ladies-market.hk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ladies&#8217; Market<\/a>\u00a0is located on\u00a0Tung Choi Street, in\u00a0Mong Kok, just a few steps from\u00a0Nathan Road, the artery that crosses\u00a0Kowloon from north to south. Visit Lamma\u00a0Island and\u00a0Hung Shing Yeh Beach<\/h2>\n<p>Lamma Island is, by extension, the third island of the\u00a0Hong Kong archipelago after Hong Kong Island and Lantau Island. It is a relatively tranquil place that contrasts with the constant activity of Kowloon or Hong Kong Island.
