Why do I emphasize the word &#8220;cheap&#8221;? Because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/travel-to-hong-kong\/\" >Hong Kong<\/a> is bloody expensive, especially when it comes down to accommodation. Thus finding a decent cheap room may represent a challenge.<\/p>\n<p>If can afford an expensive hotel you can head to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/country\/china.html?cid=1598521\" title=\"Agoda hotels\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Agoda.com<\/a> and book the room you like more instead of keep reading this article.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, if you are interested on the topic  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/hotel-booking-in-china\/\" title=\"Hotel and hostel booking in China\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here you find our guide to find an hotel in Mainland China<\/a>.<strong><!--more--><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Hong Kong Hostel in Causeway Bay<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/hong-kong-hostel\/hotel\/hong-kong-hk.html?cid=1598521\" title=\"Hong Kong Hostel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Hong Kong Hostel<\/a><\/strong> is my favorite hostel in Hong Kong for so many reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u2019s one of the cheapest hostels on Hong Kong Island. Sure, you can still stay in Kowloon or New Territories (that is the part of Hong Kong S.A.R. located on the mainland). But Hong Kong Island is the real center of Hong Kong S.A.R. It\u2019s also the place where the best beaches and most of the bars\/clubs are (the bar zone is called LKF and is close to Central subway station).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>You can choose between single or shared rooms and the hostel has a common space where you can gather with the other guests and even sit down, drink some coffee (free from 8 to 10 am), or use your laptop. I know this is a normal feature on most of hostels around the world. But hey, this is Hong Kong and if you keep reading you\u2019ll understand why I value so much the common space of this hostel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Room are quite clean and not so small (for Honk Kong standards).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The hostel is located in Paterson Street 47 (block A, 3rd floor), which is two minutes away from the exit E of Causeway Bay subway station (just walk out of the station, go left and turn left again in Paterson street). Causeway Bay is an awesome neighborhood with lots of shopping malls, restaurants, and shiny lights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>This hostel attracts a lot of backpackers so it may be your best bet if you are traveling alone and would like to meet some funny people to hang out with in LKF (the bars street) or the beach. Here I never fail to meet some interesting people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>There is a downside: the Internet doesn\u2019t work well on the third floor (that is where the reception and many of the rooms are). You keep losing the connection and it may be frustrating if you aren\u2019t on holiday and would love to get some work done. What you can do is to specify that you want a room on the second floor, where the internet is quite fast.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>p.s. If you aren\u2019t going to book your room on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/hong-kong-hostel\/hotel\/hong-kong-hk.html?cid=1598521\" title=\"Hong Kong Hostel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Agoda<\/a> you may find the same hostel with different names such as \u201cBackpackers Hostel\u201d or whatever. I don\u2019t know the reason but using different names for the same hostel seems to be fairly common in Hong Kong. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/chungkingmansions.jpg\" title=\"chung king mansions\" alt=\"chung king mansions\" width=\"708\" height=\"472\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3337\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Chung King Mansions<\/h2>\n<p>The (in)famous <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chungking_Mansions\" title=\"Chung King Mansions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chung King Mansions<\/a> are a huge building located in Nathan Road, Kowloon, just in front of the exit D1 of the Tsim Sha Tsui subway station (Red Line). <\/p>\n<p>Here you\u2019ll find a large choice of cheap hostels (ranging from about 10 USD for a bed in a shared room to about 20 USD for a single room). I\u2019ve tested several of them myself and all have in common the same characteristics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They aren\u2019t really hostels in the sense that they don\u2019t have any common space where you can eat, play cards or socialize with the other travelers and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/get-a-chinese-visa-in-hong-kong\/\" title=\"How to get a Chinese Visa in Hong Kong\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Visa runners<\/a>. Instead, they are apartments that have been re-adapted into dorms. The owners try to squeeze as many beds as they can into each room so forget about the concept of &#8220;space.&#8221; Windows? Forget it! Even the reception is just a mini-table at the entry of the main apartment of the so-called hostel. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The \u201cmain\u201d apartment is the one where the reception of the hostel is. However many of these hostels expanded into several apartments. So don&#8217;t be surprised if the reception is on the 3rd floor while your room is on the 18th floor. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Also at the Chung King Mansions is fairly common to find the same hostel with several names. For instance, the Crystal Hostel is also called Canadian Hostel (and before was called Korean Hostel). And by the way, both names make no sense at all as they are run by Indian people (as anything connected with Chung King Mansions).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>My two favorites hostel at Chung King Mansions are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/ashoka-hostel\/hotel\/hong-kong-hk.html?cid=1598521\" title=\"Ashoka Hostel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Ashoka Hostel<\/a> (cheap, clean, reliable internet connection, small common space where you can sit down and even prepare your own coffee) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoda.com\/crystal-hostel\/hotel\/hong-kong-hk.html?cid=1598521\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Crystal Hostel\" target=\"_blank\">Crystal Hostel<\/a>, which I like because you can get a single room for the cheapest price in Hong Kong (but prices are dynamics so things may have changed so far).<\/strong> <\/p>\n<h3>Pros of staying at the Chung King Mansions<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Entering the Chung King Mansion is like being catapulted to India or Pakistan. And the food at the small stands that you can find at the ground floor is awesome. And cheap.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The location is quite convenient, especially if you want to stay close to subway station or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saporedicina.com\/english\/get-a-chinese-visa-in-hong-kong\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" title=\"How to get a Chinese Visa in Hong Kong\" target=\"_blank\">the Visa agency I recommended on one of my previous articles<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>As I\u2019ve already said, the hostels located at the Chung King Mansions are usually quite cheap. Also, if you didn\u2019t book a room before you arrive chance there are that you\u2019ll find one at the last moment. I still recommend to book your room before as it\u2019s usually cheaper.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Cons of staying at the Chung King Mansions<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>As soon as you arrive you\u2019ll stumble upon a lot of aggressive vendors. The goods they\u2019ll try to sell to you may vary quite a lot: it could be a fake Rolex, a room in a hostel, hashish or a photo camera (I doubt they are real Canon or Nikon though). <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Even if there are several elevators (I think they are twelve but I don&#8217;t recall the details) they are all small and overcrowded. The result is that most of the time you\u2019ll end up waiting several minutes to get into an elevator and then squeezed inside with other eight people that we\u2019ll often carry huge bags or boxes with them. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The hostels are super small and the electrical plant is very old. This may cause a lot of noise and sparks when you plug in your laptop or phone charger.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Forget about bringing a host such a girl that you met late at night in LKF. It\u2019s usually forbidden even if you have a single room.
