There are lots of Chengyu in the Chinese language and they get used quite a bit. <\/p>\n<p>When a foreigner manages to master the Chengyu \u2013 along with idiomatic expressions &#8211; both in written and spoken language, it means they have reached a very high level in the Chinese language. <\/p>\n<p>In the course of my studies I&#8217;ve run into several of these expressions and wanted to draw up those I have encountered most frequently. <\/p>\n<p>So below you will find a list of 148 Chengyu and idiomatic phrases that are among the most used in modern China:<\/p>\n<p>1. \u4e0d\u53ef\u5f97\u517c (b\u00f9 k\u011b d\u00e9 ji\u0101n): \u201cyou can&#8217;t have both at the same time\u201d<\/p>\n<p>2. \u4e0d\u5f97\u5176\u6cd5 (b\u00f9 d\u00e9 q\u00ed f\u01ce):  \u201cnot knowing the right way\u201d<\/p>\n<p>3. \u5fc3\u795e\u4e0d\u5b81 (x\u012bn sh\u00e9n b\u00f9 n\u00edng):  \u201cto feel bad about nothing\u201d <strong><!--more--><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>4. \u4e00\u672c\u6b63\u7ecf (y\u012b b\u011bn zh\u00e8ng j\u012bng): \u201cto always be serious\u201d<\/p>\n<p>5. \u6c89\u9c7c\u843d\u96c1 (ch\u00e9n y\u00fa lu\u00f2 y\u00e0n): \u201cextremely beautiful\u201d<\/p>\n<p>6. \u72ec\u4e00\u65e0\u4e8c (d\u00fa y\u012b w\u00fa&#8217;\u00e8r): \u201cunique\u201d<\/p>\n<p>7. \u6570\u4e00\u6570\u4e8c (sh\u01d4 y\u012b sh\u01d4&#8217;\u00e8r): \u201cthe best;
